About Northeast India
Northeast India, often referred to as the “Seven Sisters” along with the “brother” state of Sikkim, comprises eight states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim. This region shares international borders with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal, making it a strategic and culturally rich area. The city of Guwahati in Assam is commonly known as the “Gateway to the Northeast” and serves as the largest metropolis in the region
The Northeast is renowned for its diverse ethnic and linguistic communities, with over 166 distinct tribes, each possessing unique traditions and languages. This cultural mosaic is celebrated through various festivals, such as Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival, which showcases traditional Naga culture through tribal dances, songs, and arts
